Chon-Kemin Gorge and Canyon is one of the most beautiful places on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, a unique natural complex that includes a gorge, a canyon and the Chon-Kemin River flowing through it

The Chon-Kemin River originates at the junction of the Kungei Ala-Too and Or Ala-Too ridges and flows into the Chui River at the beginning of the arrow-shaped gorge in the Chui Valley. The length of the Chon-Kemin River is 116 km. There are seven lakes in its basin. The Chon-Kemin River flows through a specially protected area – the state Natural National Park Chon-Kemin

It also flows along the bottom of the Chon-Keminsky Gorge, located 150 km east of Bishkek. At the bottom of the gorge is the Chon-Kemin gorge. Its width is 6 km and its length is 12 km. The whole valley is covered with green meadows, and spruce forests grow on its slopes. In combination with the glaciers covering the mountain range, all this makes an unforgettable impression on the traveler.

Another attraction of the Chon-Kemin River Valley is the 500-hectare National Nature Park, which was established in 1997 by the decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on the creation of a national park in the valley of the Chon-Kemin River and the allocation of all forests of the Kemin district. The park is under state protection, its territory is inhabited by unique representatives of flora and fauna, including hare, pheasant, ephedra needle.

Chon-Kemin is a unique nature reserve where the natural landscape has remained virtually untouched. Here glaciers are adjacent to green coniferous forests and meadows. The valley is closed on three sides by ridges and lies at an altitude of 1400-2800 m . There are warm green meadows at the bottom of the valley, but eternal snows lie on the Kungei Ala-Too and Ili Ala-Too ridges at an altitude of 4700 m.

Chon-Kemin is a paradise for lovers of extreme tourism and travel to picturesque places. Everyone will find their own way to have fun here, whether it’s dangerous river rapids, rugged mountain slopes or just enjoying the natural beauty of the Chon-Kemin Valley

Chon-Kemin is located in a cleft between the largest mountain ranges of the northern Tien Shan – Ili Ala-Too in Kazakhstan and Kyungei Ala-Too on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. The gorge is bordered on both sides by high mountains, glaciers and Tien Shan coniferous forests. There are seven lakes in the Chon-Kemin River basin, including the large lake Kel-Kogul (also known as Kel-Tor) and Lake Zhashyl-Kol. There are tourist routes along the gorge to several passes connecting Chon-Kemin and Issyk-Kul, the most famous of which is Kok-Ayryk, with hiking and horseback trips to the lake and a long bicycle route.

Individual Nomads Life tours are a great opportunity to make a route exactly the way you want. We offer hiking, cycling, horseback riding, automobile, ethno-tours and, of course, combined tours combining two or more types of tourist activities
