Batken Region

Batken Region is the most remote region of Kyrgyzstan, located at the foot of the mighty Turkestan Mountains. Tourists rarely visit this region, but there is something to see!

One of the rarest flowers found in Kyrgyzstan is Aygul, which blooms in the Batken region.This bright orange flower grows in Kyrgyzstan and Turkestan Mountains. The name of the flower translates as sunflower. Scientific name: Edward’s hazel grouse; when this flower begins to bloom, locals organize a flower festival. Aygul is listed in the Red Book and must not be plucked. This flower is unique in that it grows in the shade of the mountains. The stems are about 1 meter high. Each year, one bud is produced on each stem. Locals say they have encountered an Aygul with 30 buds!

 Batken region is a wonderful region. It is the most remote corner of Kyrgyzstan and may seem unremarkable at first glance, but this impression is deceptive. First of all, the Batken region is a trekking enthusiast’s dream. The vast Turkistan mountain range hides many interesting things in its depths. During a one-day hike, one can see the stunning Karafsin and Leylek valleys, the turquoise-colored Ai Kol Lake and the Pyramidal Peak, often called the Patagonia of Asia. In the mountains of the Batken region, you will feel an incredible Asian space where you will not meet a single person for kilometers. It is also home to the aigle flower, a flower that grows nowhere else in the world.Batken is also an interesting place for history and culture buffs. The ruins of the mighty Kokand fortress are preserved here, as is Khan’s fortress. Batken is famous for its caves, among them the Kan-i-Gut caves, which extend six kilometers into the mountains and have been the most important source of silver in the Fergana Valley for thousands of years. This is a great place to easily pioneer something new.
