The Kegety Gorge

Kegeti is a gorge on the northern slopes of the Kyrgyz Mountains, located 70 km from Bishkek and 20 km from Tokmok. Unlike other gorges of the Kyrgyz Mountains, it is very wide and spacious, which makes it very attractive for a wide range of tourists, including fans of skyrunning, leisurely walks and cyclists. Being one of the longest valleys in the Kyrgyz Mountains (about 27 km), Kegeti is distinguished by a very diverse relief and many beautiful places. This, of course, is the Kel-Tor Lake on the right tributary of the Kegeti River, two waterfalls, the Tien Shan spruce forest and the Kegeti mountain pass (4000 m), from which you can go to the valley of the East Karakol River.
It is worth stopping at the Kegeti Waterfall, a popular tourist attraction. This waterfall with a height of about 30 m is small, but it has plenty of water, the water in it is cool and transparent, which makes it an ideal place to relax or have a short picnic.
The elevation difference in the gorge is quite gradual and reaches 1250 m at the lowest point and 3200 m in the upper reaches of the Kegeti River. In addition, in the lower parts of the gorge, there seems to be no vegetation at all, while in the higher parts of the gorge, on the contrary, most of the mountain slopes are covered with coniferous forests. This is the most wooded canyon in the Chui Valley.

How to get to the Kegeti gorge?
The Kegeti Gorge is located 50 km east of Bishkek. Public transport does not run from Bishkek to the gorge. Traveling by private car or taxi is not a problem during the first 10 km within the gorge. When the asphalt ends, a high-quality dirt road begins, but due to the rocky nature of the road, it is preferable to use SUVs. The upper part of the gorge, to the Kegeti pass, can only be reached by four-wheel drive SUVs and with an experienced driver.
