Uzbekistan conveys the romantic image from the 1,001 Nights. Here, where the Orient still has its old, unchanged face, you will be overwhelmed by the colorful, hospitable culture, the vastness of the desert and of course the magnificent architectural monuments. In the millennia-old cities like Khiva and Samarkand, time seems to stand still – donkey carts drive through the streets and the blue domes of old churches shine in the sun. These places have not lost a shred of their former splendor. Discover the fascinating cities along the Silk Road while traveling through Uzbekistan.

Additional information

The Silk Road was a network of ancient trade routes that connected the East and West, stretching from China to the Mediterranean Sea. It facilitated cultural exchange and trade between various civilizations from roughly the 2nd century BCE to the 14th century CE. The Silk Road was not a single route but rather a complex network of roads, paths, and sea routes that allowed for the exchange of goods, ideas, religions, and technologies between the different regions it connected.

The Silk Road played a significant role in the spread of cultural and religious ideas, including Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and others. It also facilitated the exchange of knowledge and technologies, such as papermaking, gunpowder, and the compass.
