Charyn-Kaindy-Kolsay Is a series of natural attractions located in southeastern Kazakhstan, near the border with Kyrgyzstan. These attractions are known for their stunning natural beauty and unique landscapes.
Charyn Canyon
Often referred to as the “Grand Canyon’s little brother,” Charyn Canyon is one of the most famous natural landmarks in Kazakhstan. It stretches for about 80 kilometers along the Charyn River and is characterized by dramatic rock formations, towering cliffs, and vibrant colors. The erosion over millions of years has created a breathtaking landscape of canyons, ravines, and gorges.
Kaindy Lake
Kaindy Lake is a surreal alpine lake nestled in the Tian Shan mountains, not far from Charyn Canyon. What makes Kaindy Lake extraordinary is the submerged forest that lies beneath its crystal-clear waters. The lake was formed after an earthquake triggered a landslide, which created a natural dam, blocking the gorge and submerging the surrounding spruce trees. The submerged trees, with their ghostly appearance, create a hauntingly beautiful scene, making Kaindy Lake a popular destination for photographers and nature lovers.
Kolsay Lakes
The Kolsay Lakes are a series of three alpine lakes located in the Kungey Ala Too mountain range, near the border with Kyrgyzstan. The lakes are known for their stunning turquoise waters, surrounded by lush forests and picturesque mountain peaks. Each lake has its own unique charm, offering visitors opportunities for hiking, picnicking, camping, and even horseback riding. The first lake is easily accessible by car, while the second and third lakes require a moderate hike through the forest, but the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views.
