Tour itinerary

Option 1. Bokurdak Semi-Nomadic Village (90 km north of Ashgabat)

Bokurdak is a small settlement where residents maintain a traditional way of life and preserve ancient crafts. You’ll see how families live in yurts and adapt to the harsh desert conditions. The village is known for raising sheep and camels, and you’ll learn how locals tend to their herds.

During the excursion, you’ll have the chance to try your hand at carpet weaving and interact with the villagers, learning about their traditions and daily life. The tour will conclude with a traditional meal cooked over an open fire using local ingredients, where you’ll taste dishes that residents prepare in their homes. This day will give you a unique opportunity to connect with the culture and way of life in Turkmenistan.

Traditional crafts: alaja weaving, felt-making, keshte-embroidery;

Workshops on baking traditional chorek in tamdyr, as well as preparing pishme and ishlekli.

Option 2. Geok Tepe and Horse Farm (40 km west of Ashgabat)

Geokdepe is a significant historical site in Turkmenistan. Here, you’ll see the fortress that was the site of a battle during the Great Game in 1881, as well as the Geokdepe Mosque, built in memory of those events. We’ll also visit a horse farm specializing in Akhal-Teke horses, where you’ll have the chance to ride these majestic animals. The day will conclude with a visit to Kov-Ata Cave, where you can swim in a warm underground mineral lake.

Option 3. Nokhur Village (140 km west of Ashgabat)

Nokhur is unique settlement with elements of pre-Islamic beliefs (140 km west from Ashgabat). The name derives from two words: “Nokh,” meaning “Nine,” and “Hur,” meaning “houri” or “heavenly maidens.”

Nokhur is famous for the tribal cemetery with ram horns on the tombstones, preserving echoes of pre-Islamic beliefs.

Activities:

  • Tour of the mystic cemetery with ram horns on the graves.
  • Visit the holy site of Kyz Bibi and the 1000-year-old plane tree.
