15 January 1985 State commission signed an act regarding the most unique building in Central Asia – The Tashkent TV Tower. Into the silhouette of the city was inserted a TV tower, which became a symbol of the high technical and cultural level of Uzbekistan.

Tashkent TV Tower History
Tashkent TV Tower is one of the greatest attractions of Uzbekistan. It is 375 meters high and can be seen from every corner of the city. Tashkent TV Tower is the second tallest building in Central Asia after the Ekibastuz GRES-2 Power Station located in Ekibastuz, Kazakhstan. A decision was made to build this tower on 1 September 1971. The aim of constructing this structure was to spread the radio and TV signals all over Uzbekistan. Additionally, the construction of the Tashkent Television Tower started in 1978 and was completed in 1984.
After completing the construction of the Tashkent TV Tower, its main operations began one year later, on 15 January 1985, aiming to spread the radio & TV signals. This building was architecturally interesting at the time and was the fourth tallest functioning tower in the world from 1985 to 1991. It was completed in 1985, during the Soviet era, and became a representation of the country’s technological and architectural achievements and became the symbol of Uzbekistan’s independence.

In 1991, Tashkent Tower joined the World Federation of Great Towers, where it took the ninth place among the more than 200 towers. Today, it ranks the 11th in this list. The metal construction of the tower that weighs over 6000 tons, is based on the heavy 11-meter foundation.
One can walk up to the restaurant “Koinot” where, in one of two restaurants, “Blue” or “Red” one, it is possible to enjoy a panoramic view of Tashkent. The restaurants make a complete circle around its axis within an hour.
