On April 18, 2025, amendments to the Law on Migration officially entered into force in Turkmenistan, providing for the introduction of an electronic visa system. The corresponding decree was signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and published in the state newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan.
According to the new procedure, an electronic visa (e-Visa) is a digital document issued through the information system of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan. It will allow foreign citizens to enter the country, stay on its territory, leave it, and also use it as a transit route.
One of the key changes was the simplification of visa requirements: an invitation is no longer required to obtain a visa. Instead, a notification will be automatically sent to the relevant diplomatic and migration institutions, which will significantly speed up and simplify the entire process.
The formats of the electronic visa, the conditions for obtaining it, extending it, as well as the list of required documents will be determined by the State Migration Service, while general regulation will remain within the competence of the President of Turkmenistan.
This innovation is aimed at increasing the country’s openness to foreign citizens, stimulating business cooperation and developing tourism. This is an important step towards modernizing the visa system and improving Turkmenistan’s international image.
