Opening new International airport Jebel in Turkmenistan

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the opening of the new International Airport, located near the city of Jebel in the Balkan province. The new air terminal, capable of handling up to 100 passengers per hour, has become an important step in the development of the region’s transport infrastructure and will contribute to the expansion of international ties. This was reported by the online publication “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

The project was commissioned by the agency “Türkmenhowaýollary”, and the construction work was carried out by specialists from the private Turkmen company “Gündogdy”. The airport is located approximately 20 km from the city of Balkanabat and only 4 km from the popular health resort of Mollakara, known for its mud springs. This location makes the facility especially attractive for tourists and those in need of rehabilitation procedures.

The opening of the airport symbolically revives the ancient route of the Great Silk Road Amul-Khazar in the format of modern aviation, connecting the key cities of the country: Turkmenabad, Ashgabat, Balkanabat and Turkmenbashi. The favorable geographical location of the airfield provides a direct connection with the most important highways and railways of the country. In the future, it is planned to build a railway station Jebel, which will further improve the transport accessibility of the region.

In addition to the passenger sector, the airport includes a cargo terminal designed to handle up to 200 tons of goods. This will significantly speed up logistics and expand the region’s trade opportunities, strengthening Turkmenistan’s position as a transit hub in Central Asia.

Turkmenistan remains a little-studied, but extremely interesting country for travelers. Here you can see one of the wonders of nature – the burning gas crater Darvaza, walk through the ancient ruins of Merv and Nasybde, explore the Karakum Desert or relax on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
